Canyon Roads

We were driving with our windows rolled down through a desert canyon with a shining, full moon overhead. A boxcar train raced next to us for miles. Jared rested his hand on my leg. Cat Power played softly as I held Sol's chubby, soft foot in his car seat behind me. I could see Lu in the back seat, looking into the wind and failing to hold her hair back from whipping her eyes with one hand.

Just for a moment my mind stopped racing. I stopped worrying about where we are going to live and business debt and how we're going to make it in the world. My head felt free and light. I sank down into the seat, breathed in the night air deeply, and squeezed Solomon's little foot.

I have everything I need.  

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin... (Matthew 6:28)
